Kids Eat Kids Play Survey
The Kids Eat Kids Play survey, undertaken in 2006/7 is the first national survey of Australian childrens food and nutrient intakes since 1995 and physical activity patterns since 1985. It is being conducted by CSIRO with funding from the Commonwealth Department of Health and Ageing, Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry and the Australian Food and Grocery Council. Results are expected to be released soon.
The food intakes, weight, height and waist circumference of a sample of over 4000 children, (from all states, territorities, metropolitan and rural areas) aged 2-16 years were collected. Dietary intakes were collected using 24 hour recall methodology. A computer assisted personal interview was done in the child's home followed by a computer assisted interview 7-21 days later. The physical activity of children 5-16 years was collected using pedometers/accelerators over a seven day period.
The survey results will provide valuable information for government and other interested groups on how to promote good nutrition and healthy lifesytles for Australian children.
