DHA- an important nutrient during pregnancy and lactation for infants and young children
In this article, Professor Maria Makrides discusses DHA’s role in early childhood development and presents her research findings from the DOMInO and DINO trials.
Docosahexaenoic acid (DHA, 22:6n-3) is a long chain polyunsaturated omega 3 fatty acid found in high concentrations in the brain and retina. Food sources of DHA include fish/seafood (tuna, salmon, trout, gemfish, sardines), fish oils, egg yolks and lean red meat. It is also found in breast milk and supplemented infant formulas and toddler milks such as Heinz Nurture Gold Starter and Gold Follow-on Formulas and Heinz Nurture Gold Toddler Milk.
